Welcome to YCN

little saturday cancelled in favor of BIG SATURDAY March 26th

Submitted February 29th, 2008

Dear YCN members!

On Wednesday March the 26th we have something very special in store for you.

As most of you will be well aware of, we organize a get-together called “Little Saturday” or “Lill-Lördag” the first Wednesday of every month. In March though, Heartland is closed for renovations, so Little Saturday is canceled. But this fits our plans perfectly.

Last year in March YCN and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce jointly arranged the first ever Big Saturday. It became a highly appreciated event at restaurant Africa in Daikanyama. We have been urged to make a “sequel”. This event replaces both the YCN Little Saturday and the SCCJ club evening.

We would like to offer you a unique chance to interact in the wider Swedish community in Japan crossing generations and backgrounds while enjoying finger foods, drinks and atmosphere of popular restaurant Fujimamas in Harajuku-Omotesando.

In short, we offer you the second (annual?) :

Web Page Translator

Submitted February 7th, 2008

Of all forgotten old search engines, Excite has come up with an absolutely amazing service, which translates the complete webpage from Japanese to English. This means that you, without the need to learn s single Kanji, have the power to browse Japanese webpages. First they invented the wheel and now this…..

Instructions:

Go to this page: http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/
1) Type the address to the Japanese webpage you want to browse in English.
2) Change the bullet in the radio button to “Japanese to English”

Excite

3) Click on the yellow “Go” button

Yodobashi

Not only does the page appear in English, you can continue to browse around on the page and the translator will continue to work.

For me, a new world opened up. Pages I have tested and work well are:

www.yodobashi.com
www.biccamera.com

Please let us know how this works for you and which web pages you recommend.

Many thanks to Stefan who let us know about this.

Crayfish party

Submitted September 4th, 2007

You are all very welcome to this great social event on September 21, celebrating 15 successful years for the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan.

At the SCCJ Royal Luncheon in March, we highlighted the continuous growth and profitability for Sweden-Japan related business since the founding of SCCJ. Now we would like to underscore the social side of the Chamber by throwing an anniversary dinner in the form of an Original Swedish Crayfish Party.

It will be a joint event between SCCJ and YCN and we can promise delicious crayfish and other seafood, funny hats, moon lanterns, snaps songs and - of course - a wonderful, relaxed and high spirited atmosphere all evening.

Please join with your spouse, colleagues and near friends and make the party both happy and fun and something to remember for another 15 years!
